CDZ News
March 10th 2008
Happy birthday CDZ!!! We can hardly believe it but CDZ has been around for exactly 5 years today! We've come a long way since then, 400+ members (283 of which actually posted), over 113.840 posts, a portal and better servers to name a few achievements. So we suggest we all serve ourselves a drink and raise the glass to CDZ. That we may have many years to come.
P.S. To celebrate this event, registration has been re-enabled!
September 4th 2007 CDZ = infested with spam (seriously) Over the last few months, CDZ has become infested with spammers. Now I'm not talking about those members with too much free time, but about those annoying spambots. Hopefully our very competent admins will manage to put an end to this. In the future we will change the registration system. In the mean while, we'll have to edit the member list manually. So if your account is deleted, don't take it personally. It might help if you don't create accounts with names like "Cialisman" or "Freepr0n", and that you post at least twice.
August 10th 2007 First CDZ Civ4 Pitboss game finished! After an exciting game with a lot of very good and committed (read: more or less okay) players, the winners are known. Despite Robboo having only one turn to go to complete his spaceship, Socralynnek (playing Caesar) won in 1953 AD a diplomatic victory with the help of his allies Whomp and Grahamiam. Check the game thread and individual spoiler threads to read more about that great game!
March 14th 2007 Did you know... ...that CDZ has an off topic section? Amazing, isn't it?
November 18th 2006 CDZ SGOTM team looking for players Team CDZ is playing in CFC's succession game of the month competition for civ4. You can read more about it here. If you think you can cope with the harsh turnplaying regime of team CDZ, and you can beat deity with two hands tied behind your back while balancing a herring on your nose, please, join our team! The sign up thread is here. If you want to follow team CDZ's heroic achievements, post there as well and you'll be granted access to the hidden subforum.
Saint Nicholas has landed! Yes, it's that time of the year again! Our favorite saint has returned. Time to put your shoe next to the fireplace and sing a nice song!
November 15th 2006 CDZ active It seems that CDZers are currently playing more other games than Civ, which is surely not true. But here is an overview of where CDZers are organised and active:

-Conquer Club
Play a Risk-like game with our members!
Just to name a few! Check out the forums to see all of the games played!
BTW some CDZers still play Civ. The signup for Civ4 SGOTM03 has started. Team CDZ is always in need for players. Please sign up for Team CDZ here!

December 13th 2004 Important News!
The log in for the new account is working so we'll be attempting to migrate tonight. This will mean the forum will lock down at 23:00 for download. Basically this means you can watch but can't post.
I dont know how long downloading is gonna take, however it's followed by uploading which will take a while for sure. Also some directory settings will have to be changed.
The plan is to upload the forum software + database first and get those working. Uploaded directory will be uploaded afterwards.
I intend to open up the forum after the database is uploaded but before the pics are uploaded. That way forum downtime will be kept to a minimum. This will result in pics showing as the well known red X's for a while. During upload you'll see your pics returning bit by bit when you refresh/open new pages.
However I before the upload directories are uploaded it is not allowed to upload anything as this might lead to unexpected behaviour and possible forum crashes.
DON'T UPLOAD ANYTHING AFTER 23:00 BEFORE A NEW POST HERE EXPLICITELY ALLOWS YOU TO!!
So, lets all keep our fingers crossed that the move proceeds smoothly.

Always war SG looking for extra player(s) Several players weren't able to continue in the Always war SG (monarch level). The remaining players Col. Tartleton, Banzai and ProPain are looking for 1 or 2 extra players to join in. W play trhe sumerians and are at the beginning of the Middle Age, so plenty of action to come. If you like some old fashioned war mongering combined with DIY research: This is your game.

ISDG in crucial phase The loyal troops of Miffy the Iffy faced their toughest moments to date. A former friendly civ broke a treaty and invaded our territory with a stack of archers and a spear. The first battles went very well for the men in Miffy's service, but the war's only just started. Everybodies input is highly aprreciated, so get to the ISDG forum and share your insights with the rest of us. And if you haven't signed up for the ISDG yet, now is definitely the time to do so!
CDZ subscribes 200th member! The fact has passed by without to many people noticing but about a week ago our 200th member subscribed to the CDZ forum! Of course you all want to know who is this elusive 200th member. It's [drumroll]....Toasty. Congratulations Toasty, may you have a long and prosperous CDZ future.

CDZ 1st birthday!! We can hardly believe it but CDZ has been around for exactly 1 year today! We've come a long way since then, 170+ members, over 22.000 posts, a portal and better servers to name a few achievements. So we suggest we all serve ourselves a drink and raise the glass to CDZ. That we may have many years to come.

Server Upgrade! If you noticed the forum downtime today it was because we have now upgraded to load-balanced servers. This is a big upgrade for the site and should mean there is almost no downtime or extremely slow server responses.
Please note any further problems in this thread, even if it is just the fora being a little slow. It will be interesting to see what the service is like now...
Mail Ladder Admin script error It turns out that email send to the ladder admin using the 'Mail Ladder Admin' button have not always been sent correctly to me. Cause of this is a script bug that occurs when you do not enter a sender emailadres. This bug is now fixed, but if you sent a mail and never got an answer it probably never reached me.
The same might apply to the Join Ladder button, but as that states clearly that a valid email adres is needed I guess it has been less of a problem.

Ladder Updated Title says it all, the ladder is updated again! Not many changes at the top, kemal is still 1st closely followed by Skyfish. I've also updated the ladder players so some of you will see their name in the ladder for the first time.

Age of Wonders demo If you like Civ (and you do, otherwise you wouldn't be here ) and Heroes of Might and Magic you should give this game a go. It's a cross breed between the two forementioned games. It has HoMM's graphics but quite a lot civ-like gameplay elements. You can found new cities, build city improvements and units in your cities, develop new spells like techs in civ, and both units and cities can flip to the enemy depending on their morale and garrisson.

The game also has multiplayer support including a PBEM option! And for the dutchies on CDZ, it's developed by a dutch studio called Triumph studios.
The latest installment of the game is AoW:Shadow Magic but there's no demo for this one. There's a demo for AoWII, which uses the exact same engine as AoW: Shadow Magic as far as I can see.

World of Warcraft Beta Signup started My guess is most people here don't care about MMORPG but if you do and live in the US, Canada or Korea, you can now sign up for the WoW Beta test. Signup started yesterday and continues untill the 4th of february. I think it's a great opportunity to see what a great company (imho) like Blizzard has done venturing in the realm of mmorpg. With their extensive online experience on Battle.net and the diablo hack-n-slach rpg series I have high expectations.

Opponent finding forum cleaned up I cleaned up the opponent finding forum today by adding tags to the subjects. This way it's easier to spot if a thread is closed or still open. It's not always easy for me to see if a game has started so it would be convenient if you all would be so kind to add/change the tags yourselves too.

C3C 1.15 beta released The Civ3 Conquest 1.15 beta patch has been released. You can download and discuss it in the 1.15 beta forum thread.
CDZ moved domain On 31st of december CDZ moved domain so we now have www.civ3duelzone.com as our URL. We also started issueing the cdz email addresses to our contributors as this is now possible. We are experiencing some performance glitches but we expect this to improve soon. If you have any other comments please report them in the Site feedback forum.
At last we have a main page!
After renaming the forum to the Civ3 Duel Zone anarres and I found it appropriate to also have a domainname and an main page. So from today (monday the 16th of june, 15:00 GMT) you can access us from www.civ3duelzone.com and we also have this new portal instead of the forums as a startpage.
The upcoming weeks we'll be working on this portal, adding content and features that will support Civ3 multiplayer. Our first priorities will be the logo, the ladderdatabase and portal lay out. So keep visiting us and see CDZ evolve.
We're also planning to upgrade to a more advanced, more stable database which will eradicate the long waiting that now occurs sometimes. Expect this to be implemented the upcoming weeks.
We appreciate all comments and suggestion on this change. Please use this thread for all your feedback.
The last addition to the site is a PayPal account we opened. We would like to keep this site free of banners and adds but of course some costs are involved in hosting this site. We welcome donations so we can keep this site running and improve it's performance. We're looking into special perks for donators such as @civ3duelzone.com email adresses for your PBEM pleasure.
That's it! Have Fun.
anarres & ProPain
The CDZ Fora are where you can chat to fellow Civ players, find opponents and fight for dominance of the Civ3 Ladder.
This page will be updated as and when we get time. If you have any suggestions for this page (or the site in general) please email them to us and we will see what we can do.
